Scene

Gay men have been coming to Cape Town since sailors came onshore to this last port of call before India. Today’s rainbow community has its roots from these days of old. Bolstered by South Africa’s gay-friendly constitution that guarantees freedom from discrimination, Cape Town has built a substantial gay community centred around Green Point.

Mediterranean weather

The Cape region is one of the few places in the world outside Europe with a Mediterranean type climate. This means hot and dry summers with guaranteed good weather.

Too much to see, too little time

Cape Town has fantastic scenery, a beautiful location and, of course, the best beaches in South Africa. Don’t miss an ascent of Table Mountain or a boat trip to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was jailed. Try to fit in a trip to the Cape of Good Hope and a wine-tasting visit to one of the many excellent nearby vineyards. As for shopping, head to the V&A Waterfront and marvel at the low prices.

Just make sure you have enough time.
