Sandy Bay is a beautiful azure cove which lies near the suburb of Lladudno about 15 km south of Cape Town. The majority of visitors are gay. There are no facilities, so take provisions with you or buy some by the food and drink vendors in the beginning of the foot path to the beach.

There is also hardly any shade on the beach, so take a hat which is probably the only item of clothing not frowned upon, since this is the unofficial nudist beach in Cape Town.

The water is icy cold all year round and the current is strong, so be prepared if you decide to dive in. The rest of the sunseekers will hardly be impressed with your assets as you make your way out!

How to get there

The beach can only be reached on foot. Take a taxi to Lladudno and then walk for about 20 minutes further south through the low bushy area to the sea boulders that denote the beginning the beach. Last updated: 03-13-2014
