Scene

Hawaii, Honolulu and Waikiki have an almost legendary ring about them, but you’ll find that the locals are as approachable as the place itself is distant and far-flung.

Hawaii is the most gay-friendly US state

It’s in Hawaii where the fight for same-sex marriage began in the US and, as a result, the state ticks all the boxes for lgbt rights. All measures, from gay adoption to protection from discrimination, are enshrined in law in this earthly paradise.

Where to enjoy Hawaii

There are several gay resorts in the archipelago, most notably on Maui and in Pahoa on the Big Island, but it’s Waikiki beach in Honolulu with its long white sand and its glittering nightlife which is the ideal place to enjoy the famed Hawaiian hospitality.

And we haven’t yet mentioned the sailors from the naval base next door at Pearl Harbor.
