Los Muertos is a huge expanse of sand, dominated by sun loungers. Here the swimming is safe, the sea is always warm and there are sports activities, such as jet-skiing or scuba diving for the more athletically inclined. Don’t miss the special ‘straight-friendly’ cruises which take you for a swim in some beautiful, hard-to-reach coves, swimming with dolphins or whale-watching.
The ‘Zona Romantica’ comprises Los Muertos and the Old Town, so it’s easy to escape the hustle and bustle of the beach for a bout of shade and shopping in the small picturesque alleys of the colonial centre when the sun gets too strong for your liking.
There are Mexican gay visitors, primarily from Guadalajara which is the big city inland, but American tourists (OK, Canadian too) make up the overwhelming majority. So this is a place to mostly meet and mix with hunks from California, beef from Texas and gym-bunnies from New York.
Playa Los Muertos is the southernmost beach in the Zona Romantica, by the old colonial town. The beach starts south of the small pier.
The gay section is in the south of the beach, easily recognized by the blue and green chairs laid out by the Blue Chairs resort which has stamped its personality in the gay scene. Further to the south and beyond the rocks and the prying eyes of the swimmers, there is a cruising area.Last updated: 03-09-2014
